IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using a MacBook Air or any other Mac Desktop or Laptop that does not have an optical media drive either installed internally or connected via usb or firewire, then isoBurn will quit when you try to launch it because it can not properly detect an optical drive. This is a bug that will be fixed in the next release. This does not affect the functionality of isoBurn, it simply means that you have to have a burner connected before launching the app.
isoBurn, a new Mac App developed by Empoc Media, is an innovative tool that allows you to easily burn DMG or ISO images to a CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and any Dual Layer DVD as well as Blu-Ray discs, if you have a burner that supports them.
isoBurn is a very basic burning application. It doesn’t do much more then its name suggests, however this is what also makes it an indispensable tool to add to your collection. Because of its simplicity it makes it very easy and quick to use.
A quick example would be as follows:
- Open isoBurn
- Drag your Disc Image File onto isoBurn
- Choose your burner
- Choose your speed
- Choose to eject or mount upon completion
- Set a Layer Break for Dual Layer Discs if necessary
- Click Burn
That’s it, its that easy to burn an image to a disc with isoBurn. Other then burning images to discs, isoBurn also has another feature that you can find on the Media Info Tab of the User Interface.
Media Info will gather as much information as possible about the media in the currently selected drive. Media Info will provide you with information regarding the Disc Size, Used Space, Free Space, Number of Track and Sessions on the disc, Layer Break location, etc…
Using Media Info, you can quickly verify if a disc is laid out the way you expected it to be. isoBurn currently supports reading ISO and DMG disc images as well as DVD. isoBurn will be under active development to support many more types of disc images as well as any new feature requests.

Similar to posts below I am also having problems burning xbox iso. The .iso has a valid Stealth and passed fine in abgx360. The burn finished with no errors, but when I insert the game into my Xbox, the Xbox logo is displayed and it reads it as a DVD. I entered the layer break and set burn speed to x2. I have tried dragging both the .iso file and the .dvd file in turn (not sure which I should start with). I have tried different iso also – all failing. Could anyone suggest a solution as to why I am burning coasters? How much does the quality of the DVD DL matter? I am currently using supermarket branded DVDs but dont want to invest in more expensive ones if the problem does not likely lie there. Thanks

The Macs are known to have lower quality burners, so you’ll have to use the highest quality media… I have had the most luck using Verbatim.

thanks. does it matter whether i drag the .iso file or the .dvd file into iso burn? both seem to burn a disk!

It does’t matter.
The .dvd file is just a text file that includes the layer break and the location of the .iso file. Using this file will auto set the layer break for you.
The .iso file is the actual image of the 360 game. Using this file would require you to manually set the layer break.

I purchased Isoburn to burn a firmware file I downloaded for my dvd player that requires it to be burned in an Iso 9960 format. I can’t get the file to even burn. ISOburn won’t allow me to drag and drop the file to be burned. Help?

I made sure the .iso I had passed all the checks in abgx360 and then I put it into isoBurn to burn to a memorex dl dvd+r. I burned at the lowest speed and it burned without a problem.
However, when I put the disc into my xbox (flashed, modded) it played the disc like a dvd and when I hit play it said it was trying to read the media.
I selected the .iso and not the .dvd file when burning with the program. Is there something I missed? Did I need to set the layer break?

If you use the .ISO file then you must manually enter the layer break information. Without the proper layer break, it will not work.

Hi, I just bought isoBurn from the app store to burn some Xbox 360 games. The games have been run through abgx360 and pass, but when I try to burn them, it says preparing, then goes directly to finishing and ejects. I am on a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Any ideas what could be wrong? I had previously been burning games with iBurn360 but that started doing the same thing (going directly to finished then ejecting). Figured a payed program would work better.

The only time I’ve seen this happen, not just with isoBurn but with other burning apps as well is when you are trying to burn too fast, the ISO resides on an external drive or the media is of poor quality.

I’m using the default/recommended speed (2-2.4), the ISO is on the same drive, and I’m using Verbatim DL media. The laptop did fall about 3 feet onto carpet, which may have damaged the drive… Though it still burns CDs and regular DVDs fine.

I am by no means an engineer but I would assume a faulty drive… Do you by chance have the ability to test with an external drive? Any external burner should do just fine.

I have tried to burn a few discs since upgrading to Lion and have had the program close the session prematurely. In other words, the progress bar is at 40% but then it will say finishing or something like that.
Is this due to the OS upgrade, a bad ISO image, or possibly that I burned a ISO image from a firewire external drive?

I have verified that isoBurn works flawlessly on Lion and I don’t think that the ISO file could cause the issue. I would suggest though, to not try to burn from an external device, maybe that is where the problem comes from.

Hi, i bought isoburn and use it to burn disc images that require a layer break – the same layer break for every disc. Couldn’t you update the app so it autosaves the layer break until the next time i open the app? It’s kinda anyoing having to enter it manually every time i burn a disc image. If i don’t require the layer break for a disc could always uncheck the box next to it (I guess that’s what it’s for anyway?).

I purchased this off the app store, and opened it once to see what it was like. Came back a couple hours later to try to burn, and now it keeps popping up a window that says:
isoBurn quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the application again. THis report will be sent to Apple automatically.
So, when I do click Reopen, it pops up again. The only way to get the pop-up to go away is to click ok, and not reopen.

You know what, actually I do, and I’m hoping that this is the issue. Looking through your error log I see you are using a MacBook Air. These don’t come with internal burners, can you verify that you did or did not have an external burner connected before you started the app? Upon startup the app checks for available burners.

It should. isoBurn does not change the image you are burning, so as long as the image is a clone of the original disc then a burned DVD should behave the same way.

Hello there. I just purchased isoBurn in the App Store and burned a DVD+ Dual Layer, but with no luck – unfortunately. The .iso has a valid Stealth and passed fine in abgx360. The burn finished with no errors, but when I insert the game into my Xbox, the Xbox logo is displayed and it reads it as a DVD. Do you have any idea why that is? My Xbox is of course flashed. Hope this is the right place for my question.

I burned a xbox360 game without any problems. Do you have the latest flash for your box? If its a newer game you might have to update your box.
Did you select the .iso-file or the .dvd-file?
